Making small changes can save you big money
How would you like to find an extra NT$100,000 in your bank account by next December? Believe it or not, that could really happen. By watching your daily spending, you can save big money–even as much as NT$100,000! Here are some practical tips on how you can cut corners:
Save at the grocery store
Families spend a large part of their budget at the grocery store. Here are some ways to save on groceries:
1, Buy items in bulk. Buying in small amounts often costs more.
2, Buy less expensive products. Don’t pay a high price for a name brand.
3, If an item is on sale, purchase a month’s supply at that time.
Avoid buying things on impulse
Stores want to make spending money easy for you. For example, items people buy on impulse, like snacks or magazines, get placed next to the cashier.
Have a plan to avoid impulse purchases. Make a list before shopping–and stick to it! Base your purchasing decisions on what you need, not on how you feel.
Say “no” to window-shopping
Window-shopping can be an enjoyable way to relax. But can you look and not buy? If not, window-shopping can quickly become an expensive hobby! Think of some other hobbies you enjoy that won’t tempt you to spend money.
Be careful with credit cards
Remember: items purchased on credit are not free. If you easily forget this, leave your credit cards at home. When you do use your cards, don’t spend more money than you have in the bank. And pay off the balance each month to avoid paying high fees later.
Bring out the old
Use what you already have and save! Here are some ideas:
1, Read the books already on your bookshelf before buying new ones.
2, Don’t buy more groceries until you’ve already consumed what you have.
3, Dig out and wear old clothes buried in the closet before buying new ones.
